Speak Up NYC! features artists from HBO'S Def Poetry Jam, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, and the Bowery Poetry Club performing in a round-robin competition decided by the audience.
The night starts with 15 poets and spoken word performers including Avra, a native New Yorker who has performed on UK and US TV (SKY, BBC, NBC, STYLE CHANNEL) and has been described as "effervescent"—Evening Standard, "laser-sharp wit"—This Is London and, "a voice that shatters diamonds."—BBC. The audience will then vote on which 5 will perform two more original pieces and win $150.
All proceeds from Speak Up NYC! support Association to Benefit Children, a nonprofit organization that brings joy and warmth to abused, homeless and neglected children through compassionate, sustainable, comprehensive, and integrated services
